At West Cliff Primary School, we believe that Computing is an essential part of the national curriculum. Click here to view our Computing policy.

Computing is an integral part of modern life. Through the study of computing, children are able to develop a wide range of fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding that they will need for the rest of their lives. Technology is constantly advancing and driving society into the future. We want our children to be confident in participating effectively in the digital world.

We have 1:1 iPads for all children in Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2, as well as access to iPads for our pupils in the Early Years. We use these, smartboards and Apple TVs to enhance learning across all subjects.

The computing curriculum

The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
At West Cliff, we use the Apple 'Everyone can...' resources to deliver the majority of our computing curriculum. These are high quality teaching and learning materials which enable progression for all pupils through the use of a wide range of apps.
  • Every can code Learn to Code 1 and 2
  • Everyone can create – music

  • Everyone can create – drawing

  • Everyone can create - photo

  • Everyone can create – video

The online safety aspects of our computing curriculum are delivered using Google's Be Internet Legends materials.

Children have the opportunity to design, write and debug programs; collect, analyse, evaluate and present data and information; and understand how the internet can be used to collaborate and communicate.
