Welcome to West Cliff Primary

West Cliff Primary School is a warm and friendly community school that provides education from children aged 2-11. It currently has approximately 200 children on roll, divided into 9 classes (one for each year group & Rockpool).

One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old.  The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.

We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.

The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15.  This is open to all children including our nursery children.  Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school.  Please book a place using the My Child at School app.

Yesterday, Seal Class had the fantastic opportunity to visit the fisheries patrol boat with the North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority - and honestly, it might have been the coolest place in Whitby to be on such a hot day! With a refreshing sea breeze on deck and the luxury of air conditioning inside, we were living our best lives while learning all about the important work NEIFCA does to protect our local coastline and marine life. The children completed a quiz, admired the impressive boat and even said hello to a rather handsome lobster! We finished with a ‘very willing’ volunteer suiting up in all the specialist gear and going head-to-head with one of the experts. Let's just say there were a few laughs! A huge thank you to North Eastern Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority, Dean for organising the visit, Mrs Knight for giving up her day off to accompany us and the wonderful crew for leading our groups and sharing their expertise. We had an amazing time and are already hoping to return with more groups next year.

What a fantastic few weeks we’ve had in Guffins😊 It’s certainly been hot, hot, hot🥵🔥We’ve made the most of it with lots of water play and a little bit of mischief thrown into the mix. Mrs Cattermole may have accidentally (or not so accidentally!🤔) soaked a few children…and the occasional adult too! Don’t worry, revenge will be taken when she least expects it🤭 We know transition week was difficult for some (children and adults) for varied reasons, but we couldn’t be prouder of all our children who embraced their new surroundings, new faces and new routines with such confidence and resilience. They have been absolute superstars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Our performance at the church was another highlight, showcasing our incredible children and everything that makes them special in their own right. Their confidence, kindness, empathy and enthusiasm for life shone through from start to finish. Just as it should, long may that continue into adulthood🩷🧡🩷 We rounded off our week with a whole class dance off, course we did, that’s how we roll🕺🏽. 90’s tunes-standard,little bit of Harry Styles-rude not to and energetic floor moves also standard🥳 In support of England we sat and sang “wonderwall” in the hopes that we might somehow help to bring it home💪🦁🦁🦁 We absolutely refrained from singing “row, row, row your boat” as to not give Norway the edge!!! Thank you to all of you who supported our Summer fair. The children found it very hard to contain their excitement. The poor trampoline man had a very captive audience from 11am all the way through till 1pm😂it’s a good job our hose pipe doesn’t stretch that far, I fear he would also have been soaked😬 As we head towards the final week of the school year (absolutely mind blowing🤯), thank you to all of our wonderful families for your continued support. I’m not sure you realise how much your kind words and support have helped us, but they really have and we massively appreciate it, thank you🩷🧡🩷 We hope you have a beautiful weekend, let’s hope for beach waves and glowy skin as opposed to sticky backs and a sweaty fringes😳

☀️🎉 Summer Fair Fun! 🎉☀️ What a fantastic afternoon of fun, fundraising and sunshine! 🥵 There was something for everyone: reptiles and birds to meet; delicious pizza and ice cream to enjoy; trampolines to bounce on; basketball and Beat the Goalie challenges to tackle; raffles; tombolas; games galore; and even balloons finding their way into Mr Long's car! The Year 5 children made a brilliant start to their fundraising campaign for their future Year 6 trips and it was wonderful to see so many people supporting them. The only thing missing today was a soaking station! Watch this space for next year... A huge thank you to the Friends of West Cliff for all their hard work organising, setting up and running the fair. Events like these take an incredible amount of time and effort behind the scenes and we're very grateful for everything they do. Finally, thank you to everyone who came along, joined in the fun and supported our school on what was certainly one of the hottest days. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! ☀️
