Tame a tiger (face a situation that worries them)

Improve their local environment and community

One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old. The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.
We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.
The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15. This is open to all children including our nursery children. Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school. Please book a place using the My Child at School app.

We are a beach school and are very committed to learning outside of the classroom. Exploring, motivating, engaging, creating and thinking.

We aim to give every child the best possible start to their education. We work with children from the age of 2 until they transfer to Primary School.

Our children are currently organised into 7 classes & a new Guppies Nursery Class. Our class numbers range from 22 to 32. We pride ourselves on personalised learning.

At West Cliff our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’.

What a return ! Thank you all (parents/families/friends/staff) for your support in ensuring all pupils were back and ready to learn right from the start. We are delighted with how calm and purposeful our school feels and every child has approached their learning in the most positive way. This is definitely reflected in the pride they have shown in their books and the kindness and co-operation shown in the playground. Thank you - we hope you all have a wonderful weekend! p.s - the last two photos are Y2 working so hard right to the bell….on a Friday 💪💪

🎭 NEW! DRAMA & MUSICAL THEATRE CLUB AT WEST CLIFF! 🎶 We’re so excited to be launching our brand-new Drama & Musical Theatre Club at West Cliff for KS2! Each term will bring a new theme, new challenges and lots of opportunities to act, sing and dance. And this term, we’re heading towards something very special… our very first school musical! ✨ 🎟️ The theme? MATILDA! 📚 We’ll be working towards our own school production and are looking for talented young performers to take on some of Roald Dahl’s most memorable characters, including: ⭐ Matilda ⭐ The Wormwoods ⭐ Miss Honey ⭐ The wicked Miss Trunchbull! Chris, who delivered classes during our transition days, will be back weekly to lead this exciting new club, helping students develop their confidence, performance skills and love of musical theatre. Whether you love acting, singing, dancing, or all three… we’d love to see you there! 🎭🎶💃 Get ready to step into the world of Matilda… and let the rehearsals begin! 📚✨ The club will run every Tuesday from 15.15 – 16.15 for KS2 children only. We expect it to be very popular so the places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. First date for this club only will be Tuesday 15th September. All other clubs will commence the following week.

Our aspirational curriculum is designed to recognise and build on children’s prior learning and develop inquisitive, curious, resilient and independent learners who are willing to ‘tame their tigers’. Reading and digital literacy are at the heart of our daily learning, opening up new learning opportunities.

Our ever-developing bespoke curriculum will provide our pupils with the opportunity to develop a rich and deep subject knowledge and understand the purpose and value of their learning. Whilst celebrating Whitby’s heritage and locality, we promote opportunities to explore the wider world.

Our school pledges and Beach School status at the core of our curriculum, value all subjects; help our pupils to be ambitious and creative; and prepare them for their future lives.
