Welcome to West Cliff Primary

West Cliff Primary School is a warm and friendly community school that provides education from children aged 2-11. It currently has approximately 200 children on roll, divided into 9 classes (one for each year group & Rockpool).

One of our classes is a nursery class that takes children from 2 years old.  The school mainly takes children from the west side and the centre of Whitby - but is accessible from all parts of the town.

We pride ourselves on providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and adults alike, and we strive to provide the very best standard of education possible for our children.

The school has a before and after school club (The Ocean Fun Club), offering wraparound care for children from 7.45 until 5.15.  This is open to all children including our nursery children.  Prices are £2.50 for breakfast and £2.50 per hour after school.  Please book a place using the My Child at School app.

Our Classes

Our children are currently organised into 7 classes & a new Guppies Nursery Class. Our class numbers range from 22 to 32. We pride ourselves on personalised learning.

We’re absolutely thrilled to share our brand-new West Cliff sports shirts! A huge thank you to Whitby Town Football Club for their incredibly generous donation, which has helped make this exciting project a reality. What makes these shirts even more special is that they were designed by three of our very own pupils, Chester, Charles and Theo. Their fantastic ideas, creativity and school spirit have resulted in a design we can all be proud of. We are so excited to see our teams wearing the shirts at future sporting events, cheering each other on, making memories, and representing West Cliff with confidence, pride and a big smile on their faces! 🏅💙💛⭐

15th September 2026

Key Stage 2 children were visited this morning by Jay from the fishing school. He talked to us about the history and role of the fishing industry in Whitby, which links very well to our history topic. We also found out about what the fishing school does and future careers (linking well with our careers curriculum). We look forward to visiting soon to find out more. A huge thank you to Jay for leading our assembly this morning!
